Andrew's Ruby Black BMW 335i - Full Paint Restoration

Andrew was lucky enough to recently purchase a used BMW 335i in the individual colour, Ruby Black. This is a stunning colour, black with a hint of red metallic throughout the paint. However you wouldn't know as the previous owner had treated the car to a life of paint abuse at the hands of automatic carwashes, leaving the paint swirled, scratched and hazy. Crimes against such beautiful cars should be punishable by being forced to live a life of driving boring cars! Luckily Andrew was able to see the potential and brought the car to us for a full paint correction and leather treatment package to get the car looking as good as new.

The car had years of brake dust caked on, water marks and plenty of swirls! Just the kind of challenge we love.

We started with the wheels, using a series of wheel safe cleaners to brake down the grime on the wheels:

Being sure to thoroughly clean all the spokes:

It was then time to move onto the rest of the car:

Not forgetting in-between the badges:

Remember never use the same brush for wheels and paint. We have different buckets, brushes and cloths for wheels entirely, being certain to never mix them up!

Its easy to paint correct a car. Attack it with some sandpaper, gradually moving up in grade, compound then finishing polish. This is not how we do things however, as we would prefer to remove as little material as possible in order to keep the integrity of the clear-coat intact. As was once said, "Detailers get paid not for what they remove, but for what they leave". Aggressive polishing over the lifetime of a vehicle can result in clear-coat erosion, resulting in requiring a costly respray! Not what we want.

To do this, we mask the car into different sections, and start using different polishes to see what works best, starting with the mildest and gradually moving up in grades. Having a wide variety of polishes and pads is vital. With dozens of combinations of pad and polish at hand, we can deal with absolutely every scenario!

Here you can see the corrected vs. the uncorrected side:

A huge difference and you can see the tinge of ruby red now.

Onto the boot:

We then went on to paint correct the rest of the car, and then moved onto the interior:

To lock in the beautiful gloss finish, the car was treated with Opti-Coat paint protection resulting in a stunning shine to enhance the perfectly corrected paint finish:

Job's like this take time to ensure quality, with over 30 hours of work on this car! However, as our name suggests, we are 'obsessed' with perfection and we're sure you'll agree that the results are well worth it.

We specialise in these kinds of restorative details. So if you've just bought a used car, or feel your current car isn't looking as good as it should, send us an email at info@obsessioncardetailing.com to find out how we can make your car look blindingly reflective!

Now all Andrew needs is to finish the car off with a VMR Wheel and Tyre package from our friends at Euro1Concept, and possibly an Agency Power exhaust system to unleash the glorious roar of the twin turbo 3.0 6 cylinder engine. Email sales@euro1concept.com and tell them O.C.D sent you!

White Toyota 86 Touch Up and Insurance Work

Several months ago, we performed a full paint correction and Opti-Coat application on Brody's brand new pearl white Toyota 86.  Unfortunately, Brody was involved in a minor accident and had to get a new door for his car. Being a smart guy, Brody was fully insured, and his insurance company paid for the detail of his car and application of Opti-Coat to his new door, ensuring it too was protected like the rest of the car.

The first thing we noticed was how stunning the car looked. It had ben several months since being treated, and the car presented as brand new. That's the magic of Opti-Coat, it will keep your car looking good forever.

After a paint correction to jewel the paint on his new door, we performed a mini detail and applied some gloss enhancer to enhance the shine further. To make his car stand out from the crowd, Brody elected to have some matte black vinyl applied to the lower bumper through one of our affiliates. Contact us is you're interested in vinyl vehicle wrapping, everything from door handles, trips, to a full car wrap! All work is fully guaranteed and we only use the highest quality vinyl products!

Here are some photo's of Brody's freshly detailed car:

Black Toyota 86

Some time ago, we performed a paint correction on a black Subaru BRZ. Now it was time time for its twin, a black Toyota 86. Black is the hardest colour to work with, with every single swirl and scratch visible under any light, so it's important to get the paint as smooth as possible before the Opti-Coat application. However once the car is corrected and Opti-Coat is applied, there is nothing quite as glossy or 'wet' looking as a freshly corrected black car. Enjoy the photos.

The car as presented. Needed a wash, and the car lacked any real gloss or depth, the hallmarks of a black car:

Starting with the wheels and a wash of the car:

The car was full of scratches:

Luckily the paint on these cars is quite soft, so a short while later we had a flawless finish:

And the end result is a beautiful, glossy, wet looking car:

Unfortunately, when the client came to pick up the car the following day, it was raining. However this was a perfect opportunity to show off Opti-Coat's amazing ability to bead water:

Lime Green Hyundai Veloster

Who here remembers when Hyundai came out with the Excel for $13,990 drive away? I think it was in the late 90's, and my brother and I had recently moved to Australia from England. Whilst great value for a new car, although there are now cheaper options from the likes of Daihatsu, most people would agree that the Excel was possibly the worst car ever made.

However, Hyundai have evolved, and much like how the Japanese manufacturers beat the American's after a few failures, it seems the likes of Kia and Hyundai will soon be beating the Japanese! And this lime green Veloster shows why. A truly unique design, with a unique three door design, the Veloster has looks and performance to boot, with a turbocharged version to rival the Golf GTI also available.

This particular example was brought to us shortly after being driven from the dealership. True to form, the car was not detailed by the dealer, but due to the weather, it did have a lot of watermarks, dust and dirt. After a thorough clean, a mild paint correction was performed to maximise the shine before locking it in with Opti-Coat ceramic paint protection. Enjoy the photos, click to see bigger versions, and please contact us to find out more.

And we have another one!

The Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ is an extremely hot car right now. So much so that we have probably done at least a dozen of them over the past 8 months. There are a lot more on the road, but unfortunately it seems many of them were sucked into purchasing the dealer provided paint protection. It seems a lot of people find it hard to say no to a an attractive blonde offering them paint protection! Don't fall for it guys, its a trap!

Thankfully, Shaun knew what the right thing to do with his brand new 86, and even asked the dealer to abstain from detailing the car, as always requested by us. The burnt orange colour looks fantastic from factory, and even better once we've jewelled the paint and topped it with some gloss enhancing Opti-Coat. Enjoy the photos!
