One of our customers recently purchased this brand new VW Beetle for his wife. Naturally he wanted the best protection possible, that would require almost no maintenance, so he chose Opti-Coat and Obsession Car Detailing. For once the brief was simple - just prepare the car and apply the Opti-Coat, no correction needed. However, we aren't called Obsession Car Detailing for nothing so naturally it wasn't quite as simple!
Being a great colour and new, the Beetle looked pretty good on first inspection, other than some dirty wheels:
So we started with a soak, and then attacked the wheels with our long handled brush, allowing us to get inside the barrels:
Looking much better:
It was then time to bathe the car in foam and wash it to remove any dealer applied glazes and fillers:
After a blow dry (literally, we use large blowers to dry cars to prevent any scratching), we took the car inside to examine it. Being hard VW paint, there weren't too many scratches, but we could definitely do better:
The black spoiler at the rear was a bit worse for wear however:
Concentrating on high impact areas like the bonnet, the spoiler and the top of the guards, we gave them a light correction. Seeing as this car was a daily driver, our client wasn't after a show car finish.
And a quick 50/50 of the spoiler (pardon the dust!)
We then wiped the car down, removing any residue and oils, cleaned the car with a 15% IPA mix, and applied Opti-Coat, letting it cure overnight.
Some colours really pop after Opti-Coat and this red was certainly one of them:
The interior in the new VW's is fantastic. We applied Opti-Coat on the painted interior pieces, and applied a UV protectant on the leather and plastics. Note how the trim retains its matte appearance, and does not go glossy, which is the case when using cheaper, inferior products, often with silicone:
The interior feels like a million dollars. It even has a boost gauge, oil temperature gauge and lap timer!
