Quinten recently purchased this stunning E92 BMW M3 in Jerez Black, one of the last models to roll off the production line before the replacement of the glorious V8 Roar with a turbo 6, and the 3-door M3 no more - the replacement for the M3 is the M4, with the M3 being a 4 door version of the M3. Not sure why BMW chose to replace such an iconic name, ah well.
He decided on Modesta BC-05 for the paint, following a full paint correction, and Opti-Coat on the wheels, with Opti-Guard on the interior. See the pictures below and always, click for a bigger view.
Being a black car, we knew we were in for a challenge, but little did we know how much of a challenge it would really be...
As usual, we started with a foam bath and attacked the wheels.
The wheels are a beauty, but oh my they were a pain to clean!
We clayed the glass and paint:
And examined the paint...
At this point we decided it was all too hard. So we went to bed.
The next morning, bright and early we began to attack the paint with a variety of pads, polishes and compounds:
After an initial cutting step we could see a huge difference, but there was more to be done:
Quinten had pointed out a few scratches to us, so we worked at removing them, attacking with 2000, then 3000 grit sandpaper:
After 2 stages of correction the car was looking great, but we wanted a bit extra:
We continued to polish the car, and finished off using Sonax Perfect Finish to leave an unrivalled level of gloss and clarity:
See the clarity of the metallic fleck:
The vents were removed for cleaning and to allow full access to the bonnet, ensuring complete correction:
And at the end of a long hard day, well after midnight, it was time to apply the Modesta Primer:
And after saying goodnight to the beast, it was time for bed. The gloss was already apparent, even after just the primer:
The next morning, bright and early, it was time to apply the Modesta, after letting the primer cure overnight:
We also applied Optimum Tire Gel to the tyres:
And Opti-Coat to the wheels:
Making sure to wipe off all the Modesta in time:
Using the Optimum Towels (the best available) with the Modesta M1 Shot:
And all done:
Quinten asked for us to drop the car off to him, and before we did, we were able to grab some great photos outside:
As you can see, the gloss is simply unrivalled. Pictures do it no justice.
And as Quentin reported back a few weeks later, he complained "The car is just too shiny, and too clean all the time. Every little fingerprint shows up on it!"
A car that's too shiny? Thats a good problem to have in our books!
